(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two Canada geese are on the mend after getting tangled up in someone's negligence.
A man who frequently visits Whalon Lake in Naperville noticed that a geese had become hobbled because it had fishing line around its legs, said Cindy Cain, spokesperson for the Forest Preserve District of Will County.
The preserve asked Chicago Bird Collision Monitors to help, she said. Members of that organization captured the injured goose for treatment, and saw another bird with the same problem.
“They noticed another goose standing by the waterline holding its foot up in an odd way,” Cain said. “It, too, had fishing line wrapped around its legs.”
Now, both geese are being treated. But it's a reminder that fishing lines can be devastating when left behind.
Once they are done, anglers should cut fishing line into pieces of six inches or less, Cain said.
