(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two 16-year-old girls were arrested in Chicago for carjacking and then released, Illinois state police said.

The carjacking occurred about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday in south suburban Alsip.

A couple of hours later, authorities said they spotted the car — a Chevrolet Cruze — in Chicago and tried to make a traffic stop near 93rd and Stony Island.

The car didn’t stop and crashed after a chase, police said.

The two 16-year-olds — a driver and passenger — were taken to the hospital, as a precaution, state police said.

They were later released to their guardians, authorities said.
