GLENVIEW (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A north suburban police officer has been killed in a crash.

The Glenview Police Department says Officer Robert Fryc was killed on his way into work in a car crash in Barrington early Sunday morning.

Fryc, 43, had been with the Glenview Police Department since 2007 and was recently recognized by the village for being one of the first responders who helped save the life of a fellow officer last summer.

“Officer Fryc was more than just a colleague,” Police Chief William Fitzpatrick wrote in part in a Facebook post. “He was a part of our family and a part of this community. Our hearts are broken by his passing, and our priority now is to support his loved ones and our department as we grieve this unimaginable loss together.”

The crash is under investigation.
