CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago’s Goose Island Brewery is marking the coming of spring in a creative way.
Many of us are staring at piles of greying snow. At Goose Island’s Fulton Street Taproom, President Todd Ahsmann said they decided to install a "meltdown meter" by putting a giant measuring stick in an 8-foot pile of snow to watch it melt.
"I think it's good luck. As soon as we put it up, the weather hit the 40s, but it is on the south side of the street, it is not getting direct sunlight. I think this might be around for awhile," he said. "It's going to be like watching boiling water, the more you watch it the slower it will go."
As the snow melts and hits different markers on the meltdown meter, the brewery plans to announce specials, deals on merchandise, and releases of rare beers at their two locations which are operating at 40 percent capacity.
Ahsmann said they came up with the idea as a way to say goodbye to this winter.
"I've already broken a couple of shovels shoveling this year. The Cubs and Sox have reported to Spring Training, I think it's time to start celebrating the melting of the snow and it needs to go away," he said.
