(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Four pigs are on the loose in the far western suburbs, and efforts to corral them have been, so far, unsuccessful.

Two of the pigs are very large, maybe 500 pounds, and, according to the Wayne Police Chief Tim Roberts, they’re all very fast and elusive.

In a post on the police department’s Facebook page, authorities said officers attempted to catch the pigs, but the animals managed to escape. “We are disheartened we didn’t have video," the post read.

“We do realize the fun of it,” Roberts said. “They’re pigs, and we’re the police, so we do get that part of it. The post was made a little bit to be funny, but at the same time ... it could pose a safety risk to the animals and to anyone driving in the area because a couple of them are rather large.”

Wayne police said the pigs have been on the loose for about a week, and they added “the team of bandits thwarted efforts by officers to corral them” by running into some woods.

They’ve been on the west side of Wayne and have ventured into St. Charles, as well. There are large properties and a lot of woods in the area.

The owners aren’t equipped to capture them, the chief says.

He said they’re trying to capture them, as well as some locals who have experience with pigs and hogs.
