HIGHLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Security was the main topic of discussion Tuesday night at a school board meeting in Highland Park.

It was nearly a year ago that a shooter killed seven people and wounded dozens of others during the Highland Park Fourth of July Parade.

Tuesday night, the Township High School District 113 school board discussed the results of a new security survey. About 1,300  parents, students and staff were surveyed, and an overwhelming number were in favor of putting weapons detection systems in Highland Park and Deerfield High Schools.

Some parents were upset with the school board, saying the board has had since last July to come up with a new security plan but has not. The school board president called that thought “offensive.”

The meeting took on added importance since there was a lockdown at Highland Park High School last month following reports that there was a student with a gun.
