(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two years after Highland Park unveiled a temporary memorial to victims of the 2022 July 4 parade shooting, the city is asking the public to weigh in about a permanent site.

The city’s working group is asking people if they would like to see the memorial in Port Clinton Plaza, near where the shooting occurred; at Central and St. Johns, where a temporary memorial was set up; or the Rose Garden next to City Hall.

The latter is where the city opened a temporary site two years ago to honor the seven people killed.

The survey is anonymous and available in English, Spanish, Russian and Polish until the end of January 2025.

The city estimates the memorial will cost between $5 – $10 million, which may be a mix of private and public funds.
