HINSDALE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The coach of the Hinsdale South boys basketball team was reinstated Tuesday night by the local school board.
Board President Catherine Greenspan announced the decision to reinstate coach Michael Belcaster.
He had been placed on administrative leave after a parent sued the district when her son was cut from the team by the previous coach. The suit alleged that Belcaster retaliated against the student over a bullying complaint against the previous coach.
CBS 2 reported Belcaster’s wife, Alicia, attended the board meeting.
"He was absolutely crushed, and came to tears," said the coach's wife, Alicia.
Players spoke up for him, too, including Olasupo Akande.
"Taking away our coach in the middle of the season benefits no one," said Akande. "It only hurts us as a team."
The team forfeited a game to attend the board meeting.
