(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some west suburban little leaguers hit the road for Indiana Thursday hoping to take a step closer to the Little League World Series.

The Hinsdale Little League is playing in a regional tournament after winning the state title.

“So they'll be facing Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky to kind of get that, the regional title,” said Wendy Macri, who is on the Hinsdale Little League Board.

If the team wins the regional title, they will head to Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series.

“They're actually a really humble group of kids. This is their third year winning state. So they're super humble and they're very excited, but we always just tell them, you know, whatever, every time you win, it's just gravy on tap,” said Macri.

“You guys have had such a successful season, such a successful run that anything else that they do is just absolutely the cherry on tap.”

Wendy's son, Jimmy, is one of the 12-year-olds on the team. He plays first base and left field for Hinsdale.

“Fortunately, this group has such great chemistry. They've been friends for a long time. They play sports together outside of baseball. They do a lot of activities together outside of baseball and they stay pretty loose as a group anyway,” Chad Wanless the team’s manager said.

“That's just really our job this week is to remind them to continue to have fun.”

The Hinsdale Little Leaguers have won three straight state titles. They will be competing in the double elimination regional tournament against teams from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan.
