(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Village of Homer Glen has responded to a political statement made by the Homer Township supervisor, who flew an upside-down American Flag outside the township offices.
In a statement, the Village of Homer Glen said it “wants to make it perfectly clear that these actions were in no way supported by the Village.”
It noted that the village and township are separate entities but added that both do represent the citizens.
Village officials went to say that the act “not only angered and disrespected those who have proudly served our country, but also those critical of the use of government property to push their own political agenda.”
The Homer Township supervisor, Steve Balich, raised the flag after former President Donald Trump’s New York convictions. In his own statement, Balich defended his action.
“Flying the flag upside down represents distress, and I truly believe that our country is in distress and our Constitution is under attack,” he wrote.
He added that he holds “in utmost esteem those who have served and died for our country and the flag.”
