(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Thousands of bees have swarmed onto a small tree branch in Daley Plaza and have been buzzing around the crowds and vendors at the farmers market there.

Johnathan Utley, manager of the Hearts and Flour Bakery tent, said Thursday it’s been peaceful.

On the other hand, he mused: “If a branch breaks, there’s going to be a few thousand really angry bees up there.”

One visitor from Idaho named Scott wasn’t even aware of the moving mass above him, until a WBBM Newsradio reporter told him to look up.

“They’re not bugging me. I won’t bug them,” he said. ”Everything’s good.”

More events were planned at Daley Plaza for Friday: Food trucks are parked there at lunch time every Friday, and an unrelated protest was scheduled.

Bees in urban settings are not new, and some beekeeping services will relocate swarms to preserve them.
