(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The owners of horse stables in North Aurora are making repairs and temporary arrangements after Friday’s high winds blew off part of their roof.
Chris Huntoon says Huntoon Stables wrapped up riding lessons and were putting the last horse in the pole barn when things got really quiet and winds came roaring through, ripping off the roof above him.
He’s grateful no people or animals were injured and they were able to find housing for 11 horses at a friend’s facility in Woodstock while they wait to make repairs.
Some current and former students’ families came to help clean up Sunday.
Huntoon estimates 70 feet to 80 feet of metal roofing was torn off the building his family has used for about 35 years.
Now, he and his parents are talking with contractors and their insurance company while nervously watching the skies.
It’s not clear when they’ll be able to resume lessons, so they’ve set up a Go Fund Me campaign to help pay expenses, including care of the horses.
