(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – With much debate about whether 81-year-old Joe Biden is too old to be president, we asked some senior citizens what they think.

Carol Goldbaum, for her part, rejects the idea that Biden is too old. She likes his experience of decades of working in Washington.

“His brain works, frankly, better than some other candidates,” she said at The Merion in Evanston, a senior living facility that was celebrating International Women’s Day on Friday.

Ellen Lavin said she’s glad Biden mentioned his age during his State of the Union speech Wednesday.

“Age is just a number, and of course you’re slowing down. But everybody says Joe Biden is, when he’s off the camera, very on top of himself,” she said.

Sue Holbert doesn’t support age limits for presidential candidates, but she thinks the supreme court should not be a lifetime appointment. That said, the 89-year-old wasn’t sure where to draw the line.

“We all lose our wits at different times. It’s hard to say,” she said.

Rachel Silverman, 84, agrees age shouldn’t be disqualifying. She cites a cousin who is 102 and is “sharp as anything.”

“It’s about the individuals, it’s about their health,” she said.

Former president Donald Trump, who is expected to be the Republican candidate in 2024, is not much younger than Biden. Trump is 77.
