(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – If you're hosting a Thanksgiving gathering, a plumber says there are simple ways to avoid clogged pipes that can ruin your holiday.
John Baethke, a plumber on Chicago's Northwest Side, said one big problem is clogged toilets -- especially when people are using wipes that are labeled as "flushable."
“Unfortunately, marketers, they say they’re flushable. And they may be. They may make it past the toilet, but they will clog up the sewers. They even clog up municipal sewers.”
He says another problem he sees on Thanksgiving is people trying to cram too much down their kitchen sink disposals too quickly.
Baethke said the best ways to prevent disposal clogs is by turning them on frequently and keeping the water on when using them.
