(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — As the calendar turns from summer to autumn, Illinois tourism officials are helping people to find the best places in the state to see fall colors.
The Illinois Office of Tourism has created the "Fall Color Report."
Daniel Thomas is the state's deputy director of tourism.
"It's a collaboration with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and what we do is we follow the weather, follow the changing kaleidoscope of colors all up and down the state. So, we get an update every Friday," Thomas said.
Thomas says there's also a trip planner that suggests other places to visit as fall colors peak in different parts of the state.
"It's pumpkin season in Illinois, and it's hiking and biking. There's just so many elements, whether it's fishing or hiking or nature watching that you can do during this season," Thomas said,
You can find the "Fall Color Report" and the trip planner on the state's tourism website: https://www.enjoyillinois.com/plan-your-trip/seasonal-adventures/fall-in-illinois/
And if the changing of the leaves has you itching to get out to those pumpkin patches, check out an interactive map of fall activities in the Chicago area.
