KANKAKEE COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The farm in Kankakee County has been in Greg St. Aubin’s family since the 1800's and he’s been farming it for more than 20 years.
He said he and other farmers are frustrated.
“They see inflation just skyrocketing. Of course that means the cost of all of our equipment, the cost of a pickup truck, the cost of anything - fertilizer prices - are just so much on the rise.”
St. Aubin is president of the Kankakee County Farm Bureau.
“I think a lot of farmers I’ve field phone calls from and heard from in the last couple days are really frustrated with the administration and not feeling as if they’re getting quite the response that they’re hoping for," he said.
St. Aubin also gave one example of the inflation farmers are feeling: In 2020, they were paying $450 per ton for nitrogen fertilizer. Now, they are paying $1,600 dollars per ton.
