(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After twenty years of failing to keep up with college tuition and fee increases, the state of Illinois is devoting $600 million dollars to MAP grants.

Another $122 million for the Monetary Award Program in the upcoming fiscal year means an additional 15,000 students will qualify, according to the Pritzker administration.

The money will allow grants to be provided to every eligible student who applied – for the second year in a row.

The size of the grants will also increase – with the largest ones covering 42 percent of average state public university tuition and fees and more than half for community college.
