PORTER, INDIANA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 72-year-old man from Illinois has died after he was pulled from Lake Michigan at the Indiana Dunes on Sunday.

The Porter County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Kirshnaraju Rudraraju from Woodridge. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Law Enforcement Division said they will continue to investigate, with autopsy and toxicology results still pending.

The Indiana Department Indiana Conservation Officers who were on patrol at Indiana Dunes were called to the beach around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after a state park lifeguard was notified that the Rudraraju had gone under the water and not resurfaced.

Lifeguards immediately started a search –and found Rudraraju in 7 feet of water, 100 feet from shore. Lifeguards brought him to shore and started CPR.

Rudraraju was transported to Northwest Health Porter Hospital and died Sunday afternoon.
