The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (IDHFS) is urging Medicaid recipients to make sure the state has their most current home addresses on file.
Since March of 2020, Medicaid recipients have not had to update their personal information with the state of Illinois, but come October 2022, the federal COVID-19 public health emergency will be considered over.
That means Medicaid recipients will have to renew their healthcare coverage — or lose their coverage.
Illinois officials said the state will be sending renewal reminders to people at the addresses on file. If the wrong addresses are in the system, people could wind up without insurance.
In a press release, officials said that Medicaid customers move more frequently than other Americans, on average. IDHFS said its outreach campaign will include connecting with local organizations that serve Medicaid customers.
Information can be updated by calling the IDHFS hotline at 877-805-5312, or by visiting the state’s online Medicaid Address Update form.
