(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – North suburban Mundelein has been making extra security plans for a music fest this weekend that organizers bill as the first in Illinois to allow the open consumption of recreational cannabis.

Village Administrator Eric Guenther says since organizers approached Mundelein back in April they’ve had six meetings to discuss logistics such as fencing, parking and security.

The Miracle in Mundelein will have local police, private security and EMTs on site, he said Thursday.

There will be shuttles to take fans 21 and older to the fest, which is in an industrial neighborhood near the village’s only cannabis dispensary.

Guenther said officers will be watching for anyone who has consumed too much and will take steps to make sure they get home safely.

Ride-sharing is encouraged and will have a separate entrance.

Organizers say there are still tickets available for the 21-and-older event, which offers multiple rolling stations, couches, a transparent tunnel, drinks and plenty of food.

Hip hop artists Cypress Hill and Action Bronson are among musical acts at the fest, which runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
