(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Spring Break is just around the corner, but you don't have to go far for an outdoor adventure.

The Illinois Beach State Park is a little more than an hour north of Chicago in Zion and Starved rock is 90 minutes southwest of Chicago near Utica.

Marla Cichowski, Spokesperson for Illinois Office of Tourism tells the WBBM Noon Business Hour that the Garden of the Gods in the Shawnee National Forest in far downstate Illlinois is a state treasure.

"The observation trail is a half mile trail that will take you directly to the Garden of the Gods where you can overlook the Mississippi and Ohio rivers."
