(WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Illinois residents who filed claims in the Facebook biometric settlement are getting another check.
Roughly 1.3 million Illinois residents are getting or have already received checks for $30.61.
What was left in what had been a $650 million settlement fund is currently being distributed. The first checks were for nearly $400.
"We've always thought that this settlement was, in many ways, a model settlement for class actions," Chicago attorney Jay Edelson told the Chicago Tribune. "This distribution check is larger than a lot of people get in class actions."
Edelson initiated the lawsuit against the social media giant eight years ago.
The settlement was reached in 2021 over Facebook's facial tagging feature that was found to be in violation of The Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
