Keeping of backyard chickens, one of many referendums Illinois voters decided on

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Voters were asked a number of questions by their local governments yesterday ranging from the keeping of backyard chickens….to term limits.

In Barrington, voters decided they want their village to be a home rule municipality. Harvey and Melrose Park voters chose to keep their communities home rule units.

Oak Brook voters said “no” to a proposal to invest nearly $3 million for capital improvements at the Oak Brook Sports Core facility.

Lynwood voters said they want to limit local elected officials to four-year terms.

An overwhelming number of Orland Hills voters said they want 50% of the village’s cannabis-related tax revenue to reimburse homeowners for property taxes.

In Lake Bluff, by 182 votes, voters said they do not want to turn the Lake Bluff Golf Club into an open wetland and recreation area.

In Northlake, by eight votes, voters said they did not want to allow the keeping of backyard chickens. Northlake voters do want a 9:00 p.m. curfew for live bands and amplified music in residential areas.

Evanston voters overwhelmingly said they want to switch to rank-choice voting for mayor, clerk and city council.

Des Plaines voters chose to keep term limits for city clerk and city council seats.

In Thornton Township, voters said “yes” to three referendums related to the late township supervisor Frank Zuccarelli: to name a street after him, declare his birthday a township holiday and to add some purple to the village’s logo in honor of his work with the Gift of Hope.
