(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Little League team from Munster, Ind., is headed to the Babe Ruth World Series in Virginia later this month.
The Munster Babe Ruth 13-year-old All Stars are one of only 12 teams in their age group to earn the opportunity to play in the Little League World Series.
That’s a big deal, said Manager Mike DeSoto.
“The kids are excited, you know, my son was ready to pack yesterday,” DeSoto said. “It’s a great honor to be able to go to this World Series — once in a lifetime event for these kids and for the coaching staff as well.”
Now, the team is trying to raise money.
A GoFundMe campaign called “Munster is going to the World Series!” has been created.
There’s also a fundraiser scheduled at 313 Taproom in Munster on Saturday afternoon.
The tournament starts on Aug. 12.
