(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Indiana man who was pinned in his truck for six days before being rescued a week ago is thanking his supporters.
"There will never be enough gratitude I can show," Matt Reum wrote on Facebook. "While me living through this, in and of itself is a Christmas miracle, the generosity I have been shown has grown my heart three sizes this year."
The 27-year-old posted a smiling picture of himself and thanked everyone who has tried calling, texting, donating or visiting a South Bend bar to support him-adding that they’ve turned an ordinary person who experienced a miracle into the "most grateful person ever".
Reum acknowledged the long road to recovery ahead, but said “ I feel like with all of you behind me I'll be able to tackle anything. So for now thank you. And for the future, let's get this, and Happy New Years."
Reum is recovering in the hospital from having part of his leg amputated after he crashed his pickup truck off I-94 near Portage and was trapped under a bridge until he was found by a man and his son-in-law, who happened upon his truck as they looked for a fishing spot. He survived on rainwater until he was rescued.
A GoFundMe page started by one of Reum's good friends has raised more than $80,000 so far.
