(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Indiana Court of Appeals has rejected a request to shorten the 70-year prison term of a man convicted last year of torturing his four-year-old son to death.
Alan D. Morgan, 30 pleaded guilty to murdering his son Judah in the family's Indiana home.
The Northwest Indiana Times reports that Appeals Judge Terry Crone said 4-year-old Judah suffered prior bruising and broken bones, according to court records. He was punched, kicked and strangled by his father in the days leading up to his death.
Crone described Morgan as "truly one of the worst offenders" and said Morgan is "quite fortunate that the trial court did not impose the maximum possible sentence (73.5 years) under the circumstances."
Morgan argued in his appeal that a 70-year sentence was inappropriate in light of his character, and a relative lack of a prior criminal record, according to the Northwest Indiana Times.
