(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Indiana's public health commissioner has been infected with COVID for a second time.

Dr. Kristina Box was experiencing mild symptoms on Monday night, and the next morning a rapid test revealed she is positive, the state health department said.

Box also had a PCR test to determine the COVID variant. Her symptoms include muscle aches, chills, a cough and a sore throat.

She's fully vaccinated and received a booster shot in November. Box last had COVID in October 2020.

Health officials said breakthrough cases and re-infections are to be expected. They stress being vaccinated against coronavirus can prevent serious illness, including hospitalization.
