EVANSTON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Northwestern University football fans and sports memorabilia collectors have a unique opportunity to buy various items salvaged during the demolition of the old Ryan Field, while helping a worthy cause.
The Rebuilding Exchange is an Evanston-based non-profit, that specializes in training programs to increase diversity in the construction industry.
It also finds new uses for material collected from demolition sites.
A crew from the Rebuilding Exchange was allowed to salvage various items from the demolition of the old Ryan Field at Northwestern University including signs, tables, booths and seat cushions.
Zach Share is the organization's marketing manager.
He said the purpose is "to not only keep them from the landfill, but to make sure these really sentimental items end up in the hands of alumni, Wildcats fans-people that will enjoy them for years to come and pass them to future generations."
Proceeds from the sale of the items salvaged from the old Ryan Field will fund various projects, including one to help Northwestern hire a diverse workforce for the construction of the new field.
More information about the sale is available here.
