(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Police in southwest suburban Crest Hill have found the damaged vehicle that is believed to have fatally struck two pedestrians over the weekend before driving off.

Police announced this morning that they have located the vehicle believed to be involved in Saturday's accident but said the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Officers were called late Saturday to the scene of an accident in the 2100 block of Plainfield Road, where they found two severely injured pedestrians who had been struck by a vehicle. The individuals -- later identified as Laurie and Danny Cooper of Plainfield -- were pronounced dead, authorities said.

State police helped assess the crime scene and helped determine that the vehicle was a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee that was missing parts of its grill and at least one fog light.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crest Hill police at (815) 741-5115.
