CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Mayor Brandon Johnson seems to like White Sox’s plan for a new stadium.
The mayor said he met with Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf regarding a new stadium development on "The 78," the 62 acre property in the South Loop.
“My conversation with Jerry was very positive,” he said during a news conference on a wide array of subjects. “One of the things I did appreciate in their presentation is that what they’re considering, it’s the way new stadiums should and could look. That they have community benefit.
“We have not gotten into the intricacies and the details just yet.”
There’ll be time for that.
This would be more than just a stadium. The big question is financing.
The vacant land is along the South Branch of the Chicago River, to the south of Roosevelt and Clark, connecting the South Loop to Chinatown.
It’s been called “a hole in Chicago.”
