CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Mayor Brandon Johnson says it is mean-spirited and divisive for the Trump Administration to do away with programs promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the federal Government. He says he will keep fighting for them in Chicago.

Mayor Johnson says there have been attempts to undermine opportunities for Black and Brown people in this Country before. He told WBBM President Trump's attempts to thwart programs promoting diversity are the latest example.

“What it means for the people of Chicago is that what some had to make a policy in diversity, equity and inclusion, just means that what’s a part of my administration, to bring equity and justice and critical investments to our neighborhoods…is proof that we’re right.

“I’m going to continue to fight and advocate for communities across the city that have been historically marginalized and disinvested in and make sure that they have opportunities,” Johnson says.

He says he's disappointed some private companies are going along with the DEI rollbacks. But, he’s proud to say other businesses still want inclusion.

“It certainly means and underscores the fight and the challenge for equity and justice,” says Johnson. “We can never stop our efforts to ensure real equity and justice for people of color.”
