(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Kane County residents looking to safely get rid of some household items will have the chance to do so on Saturday.

It’s the county’s annual “recycling extravaganza.”

“The materials we’re collecting include electronics, clothing and books,” said Clair Ryan, Kane County Recycling Program Coordinator. “We actually collect all of those now at our recycling centers, which are open five days a week.”

Ryan said some of the more unusual items being collected at the county’s Circuit Clerk’s building in St. Charles from 8 a.m. to noon include Styrofoam, bicycles for reuse, batteries and latex paints.

“Nothing that we’re collecting tomorrow is considered truly poisonous or hazardous, but some of it is really detrimental to the environment.”

For those planning on dropping off items, Ryan recommends checking the county’s website for a full map of stations to help you pack your car properly — and to see which items come with a small recycling fee.

“Ninety-five percent of items are accepted free,” she said.
