CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Law enforcement in Kane County arrested a man from Sleepy Hollow last week who they believe is responsible for a ring of landscaping equipment thefts.

Working with Mokena police and an Illinois State Police SWAT team, the Kane County Sheriff’s office on Thursday arrested Pedro Evaristo in his home.

Sheriff Ron Hain said the 21-year-old had a modified fully-automatic Glock handgun under his pillow.

“He was taken into custody without any harm or foul. And about 40-plus pieces of commercial grade landscaping equipment was recovered at the residence and at multiple storage lockers,” Hain said.

The sheriff said detectives also found other guns, ammunition, a ballistic vest and seven grams of cocaine.

Evaristo faces charges for gun and drug possession including felonies for possession by a felon.

Anyone who’s had lawn equipment stolen over the last year, the Sheriff’s office suggests they find the serial numbers and call their investigations division.
