Kyle Hendricks joins the Angels on a 1-year deal

(670 The Score) Veteran right-hander Kyle Hendricks, the last remaining member of the Cubs’ championship run in 2016, has found a new home quickly after hitting free agency.

Hendricks has agreed to a one-year deal with the Angels, as first reported by Score baseball insider Bruce Levine on Wednesday. Hendricks is expected to receive around $3 million in the deal, according to reports.

The 34-year-old Hendricks’ exit from the Cubs comes as no surprise, as his performance had waned in recent years and Hendricks himself had acknowledged he was likely to be elsewhere in 2025. Hendricks starred in a farewell start at Wrigley Field on Sept. 28, when he threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings in the Cubs’ win over the Reds.

For years, Hendricks was a rock in the Cubs’ rotation, as he posted a 3.68 ERA in 11 years with the club. In the six full 162-game MLB seasons between 2015 and 2021, Hendricks logged 177 or more innings in five of them. He was at his best in helping lead the Cubs to a World Series title in 2016, when he went 16-8 with a 2.13 ERA and 0.98 WHIP while finishing third in the National League Cy Young race.

Hendricks will also forever be remembered for his gem in Game 6 as the Cubs clinched the National League Championship Series in 2016 and for starting Game 7 of the World Series shortly thereafter.
