CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The start of the first full work week of 2025 will be marked by freezing drizzle and lake effect snow.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake and Northern Cook Counties until 4 p.m.

AccuWeather says a lake effect snow band will continue to move south and east, bringing light showers to the area. According to AccuWeather, accumulations will be in the 1 to 3 inch range for most, but heavier amounts could be possible in the northern suburbs.

The ice resulted in an over two hour ground stop at O’Hare Airport. It expired at 9:30 a.m. More than 260 flights have been called off at O’Hare due to the winter conditions. More than 30 cancellations were reported at Midway.

In addition to the precipitation, we’ll deal with stiff northeast winds and temperatures that will struggle to get above 30 degrees. Wind chills will sit in the teens.

It will only get colder during this work week. AccuWeather projects high temps to only be in the mid to upper 20s.
