(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It was a hectic Thursday morning for a sandwich restaurant in Lakeview, after a new employee flew in for its shift.

It's not every day you have a hawk clock into work for a morning shift, but this was one of those days.

Annette Prince with Chicago Bird Collision Monitors says she got a call from the manager of Cheesies Pub and Grub around 8 a.m.

"They said that a person who made a delivery to the restaurant and the delivery person reported to this manager that they saw a hawk flying around inside his restaurant."

Then a photo of the hawk was posted to a Facebook group and quickly received dozens of comments, like one reassuring people that the bird was simply "the latest Uber Eats hire."

"In most cases. When these birds get indoors, they're just confused. They can't find the doorway. They fly up high, because high is safe. So the bird may very well just have been temporarily disoriented, and certainly he wasn't laying outside injured or anything," Prince said.

Prince said an employee eventually shooed the hawk out.

"He only said, ‘I wasn't afraid’… I think everyone else was kind of freaking out over the hawk, and he, you know, he didn't have any you know hesitation to try to get it out."

Though they weren't able to examine it, the hawk was likely not inside long enough to sustain serious injuries.
