(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago DJs this weekend will pay tribute to their friend and colleague Dave Roberts, a well-known colleague who died of a bacterial infection last month.
"Planet Earth" was the name of Roberts' popular New Wave dance nights he hosted at Chicago clubs for nearly 30 years.
Fellow DJ and friend Jeff Moyer says the "Last Night on Planet Earth" memorial Saturday is a way to celebrate the life of Roberts and his contribution to Chicago night life.
"He was always one of those people who very much stood out because of his hair. He was one of the first people I recognized going week in, week out. He was always a very happy and genial guy,” Moyer said.
His flattop hairdo was also one of the first things Joe Shanahan, founder of Metro Chicago and other Chicago bars, said he noticed.
Roberts was a "pivotal DJ and community leader" with "flawless music taste,” he said.
"it's really hard,” Shanahan said of Roberts’ passing. “We're gonna miss him, let's not forget that we've lost somebody. But we're celebrating what he brought to the world.”
The event will take place at Metro Chicago in Wrigleyville and will feature a mix of Roberts’ favorite bands, like the Clash.
