(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A north suburban chiropractor faces health care fraud charges after allegedly swindling a private insurance company.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office say Libertyville chiropractor Seung Han Lim received over $400,000 from Blue Cross Blue Blue Shield of Illinois from his scheme.
From 2016 to 2019, prosecutors allege Lim submitted fraudulent claims to Blue Cross based on services that he never performed.
In some instances, Lim, owner and operator of Movement Health and Rehab, listed dates where either he or his patient were not in Illinois. According to the newly unsealed indictment, Lim also filed for sessions performed by another chiropractor. Some of these appointments were for family members, prosecutors say.
During the insurer’s audit process, Lim is alleged to have created and submitted false patient medical records and other documents.
In total, Lim is looking at 14 counts of fraud. Each count could result in up to ten years in federal prison.
