(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Monday said she's not ready to stop wearing a mask against COVID-19, despite guidance from the CDC that says she can if she wants to.
The mayor, who has been fully vaccinated against the virus, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should offer clarity on the recommendations it made last week.
Generally, federal health officials said fully vaccinated people can select not to wear face coverings in many — but not all — situations.
“I know that I’ve been fully vaccinated, as is my wife and others,” Lightfoot said. “But we don’t know, in any given setting, who has been fully vaccinated.
“I would just say for myself I will continue to wear my mask, certainly in indoors but also in certain outside spaces, when I don’t know the people that I’m around.”
The CDC has said masks should continue to be worn on planes, trains and buses and indoors, as otherwise required, such as in stores.
Also Monday, the Pritzker Administration said it was revising the state mask mandate to dovetail with CDC guidance.
