(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who is traveling to Washington this week, said she hopes to hear more about her request for federal resources to help fight street crime here.
Lightfoot has asked the U.S. Department for more federal agents and prosecutors to combat gangs, guns and drugs in Chicago. She said she also wants more federal marshals to help track down fugitives, including offenders in the Cook County court system with outstanding warrants.
The mayor, who has recovered from a case of coronavirus, will be attending the U.S. Conference of Mayors and talking to other big-city chief executives. She’s expected to return to Chicago Friday.
