CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There are new developments in the fight by vendors at the Little Village Discount Mall to save their businesses. One is a lawsuit against the developer and leasing company that plan to evict them.

"We are not going to allow or tolerate this level of intimidation, disrespect, and exclusion," said Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez, translating for one of the vendors at City Hall.

Their attorney, Ramsin Cannon, is asking a judge to give the vendors rights as commercial tenants. Under the terms of their leases, they can be kicked out with 24 hours notice. He calls that "absurd" considering that some of the vendors have been there for 30 years like Miguel Gutierrez.

"I didn't deserve to be treated unfair, because we don't have a place to go. We have bills to pay," he said.

Aside from the court filing, those facing eviction, roughly forty vendors, are looking for another location.
