(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Coffee prices are on the rise and local coffee roasters are figuring out how to handle growing concerns.

"I've been seeing this coming for a long time," Tim Coonan with Big Shoulders Coffee said.

He's been having conversations for months about how to navigate coffee prices, which reached a record high in January.

"This change that we're seeing now [kind] of happen rather quickly, and some people have been caught off guard. Fortunately, Big Shoulders is in a really good spot with how we've purchased coffee and booked coffee for 2025."

But that doesn't necessarily mean he and customers are immune from high prices.

"We haven't touched prices yet in our cafes where we're discussing that right now, and we're going to pass on a small increase."

However, Coonan said he's confident Big Shoulders will be fine and that people will continue to buy coffee.

"Coffee is a magical thing... it is conduit for creating community, it brings people together. That’s not going to change.”
