Worker killed in west suburban traffic crash

LOMBARD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A worker in the western suburbs was killed this weekend following a crash involving a semi and a cherry picker truck.

According to Lombard Police, the accident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Route 53 and North Avenue. First responders came to the scene and found that a semi-trailer truck had collided with a cherry picker or bucket truck.

The two workers inside the cherry picker suffered serious injuries and were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, police said. One of the workers later died at the hospital.

The Village of Lombard have yet to identify the workers involved nor have they provided any other information of the accident.

With the assistance of the DuPage MERIT Major Crash Investigation Unit, the crash investigation remains ongoing, police said.
