(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Kane County government workers have helped reunite the family of a deceased U.S. marine veteran from Alabama with his lost military ID.
Retired Maj. MG Moncrief Jr. served in World War II and Korea. He was awarded the distinguished flying cross.
He died 20 years ago at the age of 80.
Years later, someone found Moncrief's marine corps identity bracelet at a flea market or secondhand store.
The bracelet was taken to the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission, which worked to reunite the bracelet with Moncrief's family.
Thanks to some help on social media, the bracelet was returned to Alabama. Moncrief's relatives said they didn't know about the lost bracelet, but they thanked Kane County for taking the time to return it.
