AURORA, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A local family is expanding its pair of popular grocery stores in west suburban Aurora.
For two generations, the Rodriguez family has run El Paso Grande Supermercado and El Paso Chico Mercado on Aurora’s east side.
Lately, business has been booming.
“We are so busy at all stores, and we felt it was time to grow, to expand,” said Jaime Rodriguez, one of El Paso’s second-generation owners. “We have outgrown our spaces and need to expand to meet the demand of our customers.”
That’s why the family purchased the former Aldi Grocery Store, located at 2134 West Galena Boulevard.
The facility will serve as another El Paso grocery store and the company’s new tortilla manufacturing plant.
The family previously made tortillas at its El Valle Florido location on Beach and Liberty streets, but will now rent that space to other entrepreneurs.
The City of Aurora celebrated the expansion, saying the longtime family business will now have a presence on both sides of the Fox River.
