(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Well, that didn't take long. Moments after a story aired Wednesday on WBBM Newsradio about a lost wedding ring found at a north suburban polling place nearly one year ago, Lake County election officials were able to solve the mystery.
The Clerk's Office had put out the word that someone found an inscribed wedding band last Nov. 8 at the Willow Grove Learning Center in Buffalo Grove and turned it over to election workers.
Juan Lopez, the office's technical director, told reporter Jim Gudas the ring had been inscribed to "Idee and Ben" and also had a wedding date. Lopez hoped someone would contact him with tips.
"We could not match anyone in our voter registration data base with those names. We also looked at the wedding date in our marriage license data base here in Lake County. Nobody with those names was married on that date in Lake County, so they must have gotten married elsewhere," he said.
A cousin of Ida Grill of Buffalo Grove heard the story Wednesday and contacted her about the find. Grill then called the clerk's office. It seems her husband, Ben, had lost weight and his wedding band had slipped off, Lopez said.
Best of all, he tells WBBM Newsradio, the couple's 52nd wedding anniversary is Nov. 6, so they will be able to celebrate with the lost ring in hand.
"They're very delighted to get the ring back just in time for their anniversary," Lopez said.
