Illinois has reported more than a million cases of Covid so far. For the hundreds of thousands who have recovered, the question is: Do they need to get the vaccine?

WBBM’s Steve Miller reports.

“I would recommend getting the vaccine.”

Dr. Jonathan Pinsky, the medical director of infection control at Edward Hospital in Naperville, says that for people who’ve had Covid and have the antibodies, it’s a question of when to get the vaccine.

“We know that reinfection can occur, but it’s unlikely to occur in the first three months after the initial infection.

“So at a time when there’s a scarce supply of vaccine and they’re having to allocate it, it’s OK to wait three months to get the vaccine - when there’s more of a supply of it.”

Dr. Pinsky says for people who do have antibodies, “there’s no real downside in getting the vaccine.”
