(WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Chicago mail carriers are concerned about their safety and Tuesday night, they held a rally at their union headquarters on the south side, demanding that something be done.
“The violence against our members is unacceptable, appalling, and out of control," the union said.
Last week, three letter carriers were robbed on the job. One was shot in the leg. They’re often targeted for “arrow keys,” or master keys, which open multiple mailboxes.
"We have over 90 reported incidents where letter carriers have been robbed, and or assaulted," said Elise Foster of the National Association of Letter Carriers. "This is too many.”
The mail carries want something done. They want their customers to help police find those responsible and they want to see people prosecuted.
One letter carrier at the rally told CBS 2 he spent $700 on a bullet-proof vest.
