(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The mayor of southwest suburban Evergreen Park wants help from her congressman to finally resolve an ongoing problem of long delays in mail delivery.
Kelly Burke on Friday said the delays began last winter, and seemed to be resolved when postal workers from other areas were brought in to replace employees who were on pandemic-related leaves.
But Burke said many of those replacement workers have left and the delivery delays have returned with serious consequences.
Burke and the mayor of nearby Alsip, as well as some aldermen from Chicago's South Side, met this week with Congressman Bobby Rush and Postal Service officials to discuss ways to end the delays.
Proposed strategies include bringing in more permanent post office workers and letter carriers.
