CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man from Portage is charged after allegedly shooting at police during a chase early Saturday from Hobart that ended near Midlothian.

Nicholas Willoughby, 38, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious felon, resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.

The Northwest Indiana Times said more charges are expected in Cook County stemming from a chase that started 12:38 a.m. Saturday when police say Willoughby was speeding on Interstate 65.

Police said he drove to Interstate 80/94 and opened his car door and shot at police at least seven times. He was hospitalized after he crashed near 143rd Street and Kedzie Avenue in Bremen Township.
